The chestnut tree known worldwide as the Anne Frank Tree will be felled on Wednesday 21 November 2007. Tests carried out in September 2007 show that the tree is in such a bad condition that the felling cannot be put off any longer. The original postponement was to give objectors the time to present a plan to preserve the famous tree for longer. However, the risk of the trunk breaking is so great that, after consultations between the City Council and the owner of the building on the Keizersgracht canal to which the garden and the chestnut tree belong, it was decided that the tree had to be cut down.
